Who owns the cemeteries and how do I
purchase a lot?
Both cemeteries are owned by the Township. You
should contact the Township Clerk when you wish
to purchase a lot. The Clerk can assist you in
choosing a location and making a purchase. You
should NOT purchase a cemetery plot through the
funeral home.
Can I transfer the plot to someone else?
When you purchase a cemetery plot, a Right of
Burial is issued in your name and cannot be
transferred to someone else. If you decide you
do not want or need a plot that you have
purchased, you must sell it back to the
Township.
Who's responsibility is it to erect and
maintain grave markers?
It is the owner's right to erect a stone,
monument, or mausoleum at the grave and keep it
in repair.
Who is responsible for shrubs or trees
that are encroaching upon a loved ones grave?
All landscaping, improvements and care for
shrubs, trees, and herbage of any kind are the
responsibility of the Township. If any shrub or
tree, because of its roots, branches or
otherwise becomes detrimental in any to the
lots, the Township will remove the shrub or
tree. Likewise, if any monument or other
structure the Township determines to be
offensive or interferes with care and
improvements, will be removed.
Who should be contacted if a marker is
sinking and needs to be raised?
The responsibility lies on the family members or
friends who purchased the marker. If you need a
marker raised, your first call should be to the
monument company where the marker was purchased.
If the marker is a government marker, with your
request, we can look at it and decide what
action to take.
Can flowers be planted on a grave?
Yes, but only within 4" of the grave marker. The
Township reserves the right to remove all
flowers, weeds, etc. at their discretion.
What about hanging baskets and urns?
Yes, hanging baskets and urns can be placed on a
grave. The Township reserves the right to remove
all baskets and urns at their discretion.
Placing cremains in a full size plot
seems a waste of space. Are there any other
options?
The Township has purchased a columbarium, which
can hold approximately 78 cremains. Contact the
Township Hall for availability.
What else should I know?
All the landscaping, improvement and care, plus
planting of trees, shrubs and herbage of any
kind on the lots, are the Township's
responsibility. If any monument or other
structure that the Township determines to be
offensive or interfere with the care and
improvements, will be removed. Likewise, if any
tree or shrub because of its roots, branches or
otherwise become detrimental in any way to the
lots, the Township will remove the tree or
shrub.
